About
Ladies Kennel Association is based in Auckland where it holds its two annual Championship Shows for all NZKC approved breeds of pedigree dogs, on the Labour holiday weekend in October. The weekend includes Breed and Group club shows. Ladies K A shows feature mainly ‘international’ judges and attract entries from throughout New Zealand..
Founded in Auckland, in December 1958, Ladies Kennel Association (NZ) was styled on the original Ladies Kennel Association formed in England in 1859 at a time when control and dominance of canine affairs was by men.
Membership of New Zealand’s Ladies K A was originally for women only. It was approved by the New Zealand Kennel Club as an Associated Club, which made it a poor relation to regular NZKC Affiliated All Breeds Clubs who could send their own Delegates to the NZKC Annual Conference and hold two Championship Shows every year without having to apply annually for approval to do so. Approximately 30 years later, NZKC finally approved Ladies K A as an Affiliated club. The other Ladies Kennel Associations in New Zealand were eventually all Affiliated to NZKC. Ladies K A opened it’s membership to include men and women, but restricts Committee to women only.
